The view of the July full moon rising, on the eve before Owen’s birth, from our North End rooftop.

Mama and Owen bonding for the first time, just moments after his birth.

After we hung out for awhile, the nurse took Owen over to the scale. Born on 7/7/09 and weighing 7 lbs. 7.7 oz., our little baby boy was already synchronized with the world.

Owen spent much of his first day on Earth asleep. It was a cloudy and rainy day, all the better for a good, long snooze.

Although we planned on labor and delivery at the Cambridge Birth Center, we ended up at Cambridge Hospital across the street for a variety of reasons. We felt lucky in the end– the midwife/doctor/nurse team we worked with at the hospital was fantastic, and plus, staying in the hospital meant the added benefit of midwives and nurses who helped us get to know our little man those first few days.

Skin-to-skin contact was such a gratifying way to get to know our baby. This scenario was repeated many times over by both Mama and Daddy with Owen in his first days and weeks with us.

A rare moment… in his first few days, Owen only stayed awake 5 to 10 minutes at a time.

Our first morning together.

When we arrived home from the hospital, we were surprised by the decorations Kelly put on the doorway of the nursery to welcome Owen home. We popped a bottle of our favorite Spanish Cava wine to celebrate his homecoming.

In the mornings, we put Owen’s co-sleeper in the living room so we could be close by while he slept.

When Owen was just a week old, we took him to visit Great Nana. Grandma Marie’s siblings came by to meet Owen, too.

The night before Patita (Grandma Patti) flew in, we gave Owen his first bath.

We knew we had a cutie pie on our hands.

At two weeks old, we took Owen on his first trip to Cape Cod. Like any good New England boy, the salt air made Owen hungry, and it made him sleep well.

Owen often looks up– at the sky, the clouds, the trees. Here he’s enjoying one of his first Cape Cod sunsets with us.
